About The How-To Almanac

A free library of clear, step-by-step guides for the everyday stuff — no fluff, no filler, just how.

The How-To Almanac is a growing collection of 284+ plain-English how-to guides, sorted into 10 everyday shelves — tech, home, cooking, hobbies, money and more. If it's a small, practical thing you might need to figure out, our aim is to have a clear answer for it here.

Why we made it

Too many how-to pages bury one simple answer under a life story, an ad wall, and ten paragraphs of preamble. We wanted the opposite: a short intro, the steps in order, the common gotchas, and you're done. Every guide follows the same shape so you always know where to look.

How our guides are written

Each guide is written in plain language and laid out the same way — what you'll need, numbered steps, a few handy tips, any safety notes, and a short FAQ. We aim for accuracy and keep instructions general where apps, devices, or products differ, and we update guides as things change.

We're not perfect, and we'd rather fix a mistake than pretend we never make one. If you find something that's wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll put it right.
