Screen recording on an iPhone captures a video of everything you do on screen, which is handy for saving a video call moment, showing someone how an app works, or reporting a bug. The feature is built in and lives in Control Center once you add it.

Step by step
- Add the recording buttonOpen Settings, tap Control Center, and under More Controls tap the green plus next to Screen Recording to move it into your active controls.
- Open Control CenterSwipe down from the top-right corner on Face ID models, or swipe up from the bottom edge on models with a Home button.
- Start the recordingTap the round record icon, which looks like a solid dot inside a ring. A three-second countdown runs, then the status bar or clock turns red to show it is recording.
- Turn on sound if you need itPress and hold the record icon to open extra options, then tap Microphone to capture your voice along with the screen. Leave it off to record app audio only.
- Stop the recordingTap the red clock or status bar and confirm Stop, or open Control Center and tap the record icon again. The video saves to your Photos app.
Handy tips
- Turn on Do Not Disturb before recording so notification banners do not pop into your video.
- The microphone setting stays on for your next recording, so check it if you want silent captures.
- Trim the start and end of the clip in the Photos app to cut out the countdown and the moment you reached to stop it.
Heads up
- Some streaming and banking apps block screen recording, so their content may appear as a black screen in your video.

Where do screen recordings save?
They save automatically to the Photos app in your Recents album, the same place as your regular videos and photos.
Can I record with sound?
Yes. App audio is captured by default. To add your own voice, press and hold the record button and turn on the Microphone option before you start.
